TULLA WORKS START TO CUT CONGESTION AND CREATE JOBS

Member for Sunbury, Josh Bull today welcomed the start this week on the $1.3 billion CityLink Tullamarine Widening Project between Bulla Rd and Bell St.

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with upgrading one of Melbourne’s busiest road corridors and once complete, the project will reduce congestion and provide road users with a smoother and more reliable journey.

Thousands of residents in Melbourne’s northern suburbs will benefit from the upgraded freeway corridor.

On average, drivers will save 16 minutes in the morning peak and 17 minutes in the afternoon peak, reducing transport costs for business and giving commuters more time to spend with their families.

Thousands of residents in Melbourne’s north west will benefit from the upgraded freeway corridor.

The upgrade will include building a dedicated new lane from Mickleham Road to the M80 and another from the Tullamarine Freeway to the M80 which will be elevated to cross over Mickleham Road

This will get rid of the weaving over a short distance that currently occurs, reducing the stop start traffic conditions and improving safety.

An extra lane will also be added to Mickleham Road entrance to the Tullamarine freeway to increase capacity.

Major construction works are due to commence at the Bulla Rd interchange on CityLink and continue progressively through to Power St on the West Gate Freeway.

While construction is scheduled to avoid any major impact on motorists, local residents should allow some extra travel time and plan their journey.

All construction works are expected to be completed in 2018.

Quotes attributable to the Member for Sunbury Josh Bull

“Removing notorious congestion hot spots and separating weaving traffic at Mickleham Road will take the stress out of travelling onto the freeway and the M80 for Westmeadows and Attwood motorists, and make it a lot safer.

“A better, smoother freeway route will also take peak hour cars and trucks off Mickleham Road, Broadmeadows Road, Melrose Drive, Sharps Road and Airport Drive, making it easier to get around the northern suburbs.

“Residents will spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with their families and friends.”
