Member for Sunbury has today urged local teachers and those involved in innovative initiatives making a difference in the lives of young Victorian children to nominate for the 2016 Victorian Early Years Awards.
Nominations for the awards are now open and Josh Bull said this was a good chance for Sunbury locals to share stories about how they’re shaping the lives of young Victorian children and their families.
The awards are now in their eleventh year and recognise exceptional contributions that individuals and initiatives have made to improve the learning, development, health and wellbeing of children in their formative years.
In 2016, the Victorian Early Years Awards categories are:

• Improving access and participation in early learning
• Supporting parents to build their capacity and confidence
• Creating collaborative community partnerships
• Promoting children’s health and wellbeing
• Early childhood teacher of the year

Mr. Bull said winners in each category will receive between $10,000 and $15,000 to go towards enhancing their work.
The first years of life are crucial to lifelong learning, wellbeing and success. That’s why the Andrews Labor Government is making Victoria the Education State by strengthening early childhood services for children and families.
The Victorian Early Years Awards are just one example of how of the Labor Government is supporting the important work that helps Sunbury families to thrive and gives all children the best chance to succeed.
Nominations will be accepted until 4pm Friday, 13 May 2016, with the winners announced by the Minister for Families & Children Ms Mikakos in October, as part of Children’s Week.
