Today the member for Sunbury Josh Bull officially opened the upgraded Sunbury Recycled Water Plant.

The opening signifies the completion of work on the $53 million government funded upgrade, the largest ever capital works project in Western Water’s history.

The project was announced by the Minister for Water, the Hon. Lisa Neville in February 2016, with construction commencing in October 2016.

The community was engaged extensively throughout the project. A project reference group was formed to provide input before and during construction and residents near the plant received progress letters and newsletters. Regular updates also were published to Western Water’s website and social media accounts.

The upgrade has been undertaken by Downer Pty Ltd, who were awarded the design, build, operate and maintain contract. Over 250,000 personnel hours were spent upgrading the plant. This included contractors, subcontractors and operations staff.

The Sunbury Water treatment plan provides around 800 ML of Class B water per year, to irrigate sporting fields, the golf course, wineries and other agricultural uses in Sunbury and Diggers Rest. This upgrade maintains the capacity of this plant to supply recycled water to these important local assets.
