DELIVERING FOR SUNBURY

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering on its promises and delivering for the people of Sunbury, with major investments in transport, health, local schools and sporting clubs in the Victorian Budget 2019/20.

As part of a massive $1.8 billion investment in schools around the state, this year’s Budget includes $3.13 million to make sure students at Gladstone Views Primary School have the learning spaces they deserve, redeveloping tired old classrooms and facilities at the school, including major improvements to the school’s Senior Block.

Funding of $252,000 will go towards planning and early work ahead of upgrades at Gladstone Park Primary School. This investment is the first step in delivering upgrades to Block B.

The Labor Government is determined to make sure our kids are ready for school and set for life, delivering on our commitment to begin the rollout of universal three-year-old kinder.

Thanks to a $882 million Budget investment, we will ensure that every three-year-old has access to at least five hours per week of subsidised kinder by 2022 – increasing to 15 hours per week.

A further $28.5 million will see early childhood added to the list of Free TAFE courses, reducing financial barriers for students, encouraging enrolments and supporting the Labor Government’s rollout of universal three-year-old kinder.

This year’s Budget also includes $33.6 million to build, expand and improve local kindergarten facilities. With funding provided to local councils and eligible providers, this investment will make sure our kids are getting the best start in life.

Students right across the state will have a brighter smile, thanks to the Labor Government’s rollout of free dental care at all public primary and secondary schools.

This year’s Budget begins that rollout, investing $321.9 million and delivering on our promise to bring back dental vans. This investment will save families around $400 a year per child in dental costs, as well as saving parents the inconvenience of taking time off work for appointments.

Once fully rolled out, this initiative will also free up more than 100,000 places in the public dental care system each year.

From upgrading the roundabout at the end of your local street to building our state’s biggest transport projects, this Budget will get you where you need to go, with a massive Suburban Transport Blitz.

$2.1 billion will transform train services to Sunbury, upgrading every station along the Line and enabling the rollout of new High Capacity Metro Trains.

This will help cut travel times and provide for an extra 113 000 passengers on the
Sunbury Line during peak periods.

Before being elected, we promised to remove 50 level crossings by 2022, with 20 gone by 2018. With 29 crossings already gone for good, this year’s Budget delivers on the Labor Government’s commitment to remove even more dangerous and congested level crossings.

With a $6.6 billion investment, this Budget ensures a total of 75 level crossings will be gone by 2025 – including the Gap Road level crossing, cutting congestion and making our community safer. The removal of the Gap Road level crossing in Sunbury will be the fourth to be removed along the Sunbury line.

Because every Victorian should be able to get the care they need when they need it, this year’s Budget delivers $2 million for planning and land acquisition for 10 new community hospitals, including one in Sunbury.

Our sporting clubs are the heart and soul of our community. With this Budget, the Labor Government is ensuring local sporting stars have the facilities they deserve, delivering:

  • $2 million to upgrade the Eric Boardman Reserve’s pavilion
  • $1 million to redevelop Langama Park’s second pavilion

Giving local families a place to enjoy and unwind, the Labor Government is also delivering on its promise with a new Jacksons Creek park for Sunbury, as part of a $154 million commitment to creating more than 6,500 hectares of new parkland in our growing suburbs.

Local families and their four-legged friends will have further new places to stretch their legs, with the Labor Government delivering off-leash dog parks in Brimbank and Hume as part of its $5 million commitment to building new dog parks across Melbourne.

We promised to put power back in the hands of Victorians. And through our landmark Solar Homes program that’s exactly what we’re doing.

This year’s Budget delivers on the Labor Government’s positive plan for solar, investing $1.3 billion, to make sure more Victorians can take control and cut their power bills.

This includes rolling out solar panels, solar hot water or solar batteries to 770,000 homes over the next decade, expanding the program to renters and ensuring the safety and sustainability of the rollout, with funding for training, safety and quality audits.

This is a Budget that delivers for all Victorians.
