UGRADING SUNBURY’S WATER INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A GROWING COMMUNITY

Member for Sunbury Josh Bull today toured the upgrade of the Sunbury Recycled Water Plant to mark the completion of Stage One of the project.

The Andrews Labor Government funded the $53 million project to future proof the waste water infrastructure for Sunbury and Diggers Rest.

More than 50 full and part time jobs are expected to be created during construction, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

Several elements of the upgrade are now complete and ready to begin testing prior to commissioning, including filtration and odour control systems and power supply to the site.

Once completed the upgrade will increase the volume of wastewater the plant is able to treat from 6 to 9 million litres a day, catering to high population growth expected in Sunbury and Diggers Rest.

Local residents and stakeholders are closely involved in the project, via the Project Reference Group which meets regularly to provide input and feedback.

Recycled water produced at the plant is already used for irrigation and keeping sports grounds green year-round, and the higher level of treatment will mean it can be put to wider uses such as watering household gardens.
