Getting your period shouldn’t be a barrier to getting a great education.
We know that students who do not have access to sanitary products often cannot concentrate in class, may not feel comfortable doing physical activity, or may miss out on school altogether.
Its why Victorian schools will be the first in Australia to give students free pads and tampons.
This Australian-first initiative will ensure that 131,700 students a year across government primary, secondary and special schools have access to free sanitary items at school.
The free sanitary items in schools initiative will contribute to the Education State targets to encourage happy, healthy and resilient kids and break the link of disadvantage by addressing the stigma of period poverty and easing the cost of living pressure on families.
